SLEEPWEAR & UNDERWEAR CATEGORY LEADERSHIP
Managing Multiple Product Stories as One Cohesive Category
Sleepwear + Underwear • Toddler–Tween • Design Director • The Children’s Place
THE STARTING POINT
CONTEXT
I lead seasonal design strategy and execution across Sleepwear & Underwear, spanning fashion, opening-price-point, basic packs and licensed product. My role covers the full process—from seasonal concept, color and fabric direction through development and production handoff.
CHALLENGE
Multiple product streams move on overlapping calendars, each with different cost, timing and commercial needs. The challenge is keeping them moving simultaneously while maintaining a consistent seasonal point of view and protecting design intent.
The complexity isn’t running one calendar. It’s keeping multiple product streams moving at different speeds while maintaining one clear point of view.
THE STRATEGY
ONE SEASONAL VISION. MULTIPLE PATHS TO MARKET.
I establish trend, color, fabric, print and silhouette direction early, creating a framework that can flex across fashion, value and licensed programs. Clear visual direction, structured development milestones and decisive product reviews keep each stream aligned while allowing it to serve a distinct business purpose.
HOW I LED IT
I drove alignment across Merchandising, Sourcing, Production, CAD, Tech Design and vendor partners through clear direction and focused product reviews. The goal was to resolve cost, timing and execution challenges quickly while protecting the seasonal design vision.
THE OUTCOME
CREATIVE CONSISTENCY ACROSS A COMPLEX, MULTI-CALENDAR BUSINESS.
A clearer seasonal framework keeps fashion, value, basic and licensed programs connected while supporting cost, quality, timing and commercial needs.
LICENSED PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Translating Iconic IP Into Relevant, Brand-Right Product
Hello Kitty Sleepwear • Toddler–Tween • Design Director • The Children’s Place
THE STARTING POINT
CONTEXT
Hello Kitty brought strong character recognition and an established visual identity to the Sleepwear assortment. The opportunity was to translate that equity into product that felt current, relevant to the TCP customer and connected to the broader seasonal collection.
CHALLENGE
Licensed product requires balancing two brands at once. The character must remain recognizable and authentic while color, silhouette, fabrication, cost and execution still need to work for the retailer and its customer.
The strongest licensed product feels like a collaboration between the character and the brand—not simply a character placed on product.
THE STRATEGY
MAKE THE CHARACTER PART OF THE STORY—NOT THE ENTIRE STORY.
I used seasonal color, silhouette and product direction as the framework for translating Hello Kitty into sleepwear. Character artwork and branded moments were integrated intentionally so the collection retained the strength of the IP while still feeling cohesive with the larger TCP assortment.
HOW I LED IT
I partnered across Merchandising, CAD, Sourcing, Production, Tech Design and vendor teams to move the program from creative direction through development. Focused reviews kept artwork, execution, cost and timing aligned while protecting both the licensed identity and the overall design vision.
THE OUTCOME
DISTINCTIVE LICENSED PRODUCT WITH A CLEAR RETAIL POINT OF VIEW.
The final program balanced Hello Kitty’s recognizable character equity with seasonal product direction designed specifically for the TCP customer and broader Sleepwear business.
GIRLS KNITS — CATEGORY GROWTH & LEADERSHIP
From Design Execution to Category Leadership
Girls Knits • Sizes 4–16 / XS–XXL • Designer → Design Manager • The Children’s Place
THE STARTING POINT
CONTEXT
I spent nearly seven years within the Girls Knits category, first as a Designer and later as Design Manager. That continuity gave me deep knowledge of the customer, product and cross-functional process while allowing my role to grow from executing seasonal direction to leading it.
CHALLENGE
Moving into management meant shifting from responsibility for individual product to responsibility for the strength of the overall assortment. The challenge became balancing trend, brand identity, cost, quality and timing while creating a clear seasonal direction for the category.
The biggest shift was moving from designing within the vision to being responsible for defining and carrying that vision through the entire category.
THE STRATEGY
EXPAND THE VIEW FROM PRODUCT TO ASSORTMENT.
As my ownership grew, I took a broader approach to seasonal development—connecting trend research, concept, color, fabric and silhouette into a cohesive assortment. I also worked closely with CAD on print, pattern and artwork direction while introducing new silhouettes and fabric updates to evolve the category.
HOW I LED IT
I partnered across Merchandising, Sourcing, Production, CAD and Tech Design to keep creative direction aligned with commercial and development needs. As Design Manager, I also expanded into mentoring design talent and guiding the work through key seasonal milestones.
THE OUTCOME
GROWING CATEGORY OWNERSHIP LED TO GROWING LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY.
Strong category knowledge and cross-functional partnerships led to expanded ownership and promotion into management, evolving my role from hands-on product design to seasonal category leadership.

PACKAGING REDESIGN & SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVE
Simplifying Packaging While Strengthening Product Presentation
Sleepwear + Underwear • Girls + Boys • Design Director • The Children’s Place
THE STARTING POINT
CONTEXT
As part of my broader Sleepwear & Underwear leadership role, I contributed to a redesign of girls’ and boys’ packaging with a focus on sustainability, presentation and simplification. The opportunity was to rethink packaging as part of the total product experience rather than a separate executional step.
CHALLENGE
Packaging had to serve multiple needs at once—clearly communicate the product, support a stronger retail presentation and work within the realities of a high-volume business. Any redesign also needed to reduce unnecessary complexity without creating new execution challenges.
The goal wasn’t simply to redesign the package. It was to make the entire system work harder with less complexity.
THE STRATEGY
SIMPLIFY THE SYSTEM WHILE ELEVATING THE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE.
I approached the redesign by looking beyond individual graphics to the broader packaging system—how information was communicated, how the product presented at retail and where the experience could be simplified. Sustainability considerations were incorporated alongside design and execution needs so the solution could be both more thoughtful and more practical.
HOW I LED IT
I partnered cross-functionally to evaluate design direction, product presentation and execution requirements throughout development. The process required balancing creative improvements with sourcing and production realities while keeping the solution clear, scalable and appropriate for a high-volume business.
THE OUTCOME
STRONGER PRODUCT PRESENTATION WITH REDUCED PACKAGING COMPLEXITY.
The redesign improved how the product was presented while reducing complexity across the girls’ and boys’ Sleepwear & Underwear packaging system—supporting a more streamlined approach to future execution.
** NEW GO FORWARD PACKAGING- ALIGNED WITH COMPANYWIDE REBRANDING, PAPER CARDING INSIDE, REDUCED PLASTIC USED, SIZE STICKERS RELOCATED FOR EASIER VISIBILITY.
